loading external in object library

February 20, 2006 | 3:59 am

I’m trying to insert Darwin Grosse’s "ddg.mono" external object into my max/msp 4.5 external folder…I’ve done so…and I put the help file in the help folder…, but when I open the object library in my patch the "ddg.mono" is not in the menu? I can pull up the Help tutorial though?…any suggestions?

Thank You!

Yes, read the manual.
And imagine how your object library menu would look like if it would
list every fu..ing external I use…
Its obvious you would need to explicitly tell Max to show it.
(Hint, there is a init folder in the c74 folder….)

That’s the expected behaviour; the new object list does not update automatically. (Nice if it did…)

For instructions on editing it manually, check out page 65 of MaxGettingStarted.pdf

Stefan
this is the second hostile post I’ve read from you…perhaps you shouldn’t reply in forum if it frustrates you so…I read the manual quite a few times, but have never come across the info., but I am only HUMAN. You must be robot.

Too bad your behaviour may be discouraging to avid Max/MSP users…I was under the presumption that this forum was for questions whether they are addressed in the manuals or not? Either way…it is not becoming. I know that interacting/communicating through a medium like the Internet can downplay certain human values, but hostility is no way to be.

Max/MSP user’s UNITE.

Don’t get it bad. Can’t talk for him, but I think he was more kidding
than trying to be really hostile (at least, that’s not how I
understood it). As a lot of people on the list / forum, he is a
really helpful guy.
I can understand that for some experienced users it may be ‘boring’
to answer to obvious questions. Of course, that’s not a problem to
ask for something addressed in the manual. But there are questions
addressed in the manual and questions addressed in the manual… ;-)
Note that I say that as a beginner. A lot of my questions are obvious
ones as well for some other people. But the more I get into Max, and
the more I see that I need to re-read the manual, so just take this
as a friendly advice and it will be fine.

Just my opinion.

Julien.

Thanks Julien.

I’m going to reread all materials.

Enough with the drama…let’s Max.

Sorry this was not ment hostile at all, it was ment to encourage you to
find some answers yourself. I would do this only if I have the feeling
that it takes more time for you to wait for an answer from the list as
you would need to find it out yourself. (And I even gave you a hint to
find it faster)

I have a good reason to do so. I usually read all mails, and since the
forum is up, its a lot more, and it takes a lot of time. I want to help
anybody. But I’d rather not need to read too obvious answerable
questions (and their answers). It will help you now and in the future if
you are cautious with the recources. I also want that those who just
read the list or the forum are aware, that its in everybodies own
interest to use the available written resources first.
Especially this topic has been discussed also quite often on the list
already, searching the forum isn’t the worst either.

This list is my home, and I want to welcome you! Keep on maxing and if
you don’t find the answer in the docs or in the archives don’t hesitate
to ask. If you still get an answer like mine, don’t mind, its sometimes
hard to find things even if its in the docs, but then you know at least
its not a basic problem you came across, and I can asure you its never
ment hostile.
