looking for a good .mov converter

September 27, 2009 | 12:24 pm

As i know by now.. the best codec to play around with HD material in Jitter is PhotoJpeg
(am i right?)

now iam searching a good and reliable converter….

i think most of you trying to help me will say "use quick time pro" it seems good, but it keeps crashing a lot on windows7

si if anybody knows about a little tool, that does what i want to do, he would save my digital life

thanks for your time

According to some tests, Apple Prores outperforms PhotoJPG, but it is bigger in filesize (2x as big at least).
I don’t think there’s an ecoder for windows though, only a decoder.
To encode to PhotoJPG you could check ‘Mpeg Streamclip’. It’s a great app for converting, free and handy for those tacky .vob files and whatnot as well.
You can find it here : http://www.squared5.com/

Like I said, there’s a decoder. This means you can read the files.
You can find it on the apple site : http://support.apple.com/downloads/Apple_ProRes_QuickTime_Decoder_1_0_for_Windows

The encoding can, as far as I know, only be done on Mac. The codec is installed with Final Cut Pro, but I don’t know if it’s available on its own…
