I don’t know much about max and I’ve been trying to teach myself for a project I’m doing in architecture school, but none of the patches I’ve made will work right and I don’t know anyone who knows max who I can ask for help…

Basically what I’m doing is building a phone-booth that will be put out on the streets of the city where I live, and people can pick up the phone and record their memories and listen to other people’s recorded memories about the city. The telephone handset is the audio in and out, and when you press the phone keys they switch the number keys of my laptop-that much I’ve built and works. But I’ve been trying to make two simple max patches so when someone presses 1 on the keypad it will record for 10 minutes and store the file, and when someone presses 2 on the keypad recordings that other people have left will play at random. Incredibly easy I know, but I can’t do it. I know this is literally covered in tutorial one, but I can’t do it, I don’t think my brain is properly wired for max. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Bev

On the technical side, it sounds sort of like this piece I say at
ISEA. Be careful of the web site below as it has embedded sound
without controls.

thank you so much for helping me! it was getting hard to figure out what i was doing wrong when nothing at all worked, taking your patch apart and putting it back together with what i had already tried is really helpful. and for some reason i’d overlooked counter until now, thanks again, i’m starting to get it, somewhat!
