M-Audio FireWire 410?

Hello All,

Anyone using an M-Audio Firewire 410 for multi-channel output? I need 8 channels of analog output from Max/MSP and this interface is inexpensive. Good or bad impressions?

I am aware of MOTU and RME products but most offer lots and bells and whistles that I may not need and still only offer 8 channels of analog out.

Thanks,

i use one all of the time, and for the money it is a decent solution.
it is a little finicky sometimes – but if you follow the
correct procedures (never plug/unplug while powered up is an
important one – you can corrupt the driver – and also
do not use the external power supply, use bus power when connected to
a computer) you will be fine. m-audio uses
a separate control panel app for routing, etc, and that also takes a
little getting used to, but overall it has decent specs
and is fairly rugged – it is the box i use when performing live and
has never let me down.

remember you get what you pay for: better mic pre’s (not critical for
my uses in live performance – for the studio
i have a digi002 rack and an api lunch box) better specs, more
options, etc.

Thanks for the info. I wonder if you know of a sample patch which shows how to do live 8-channel output… right now I can only get 2 outputs active at once using dac~

Thanks,

You need [dac~ 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8]

In my copy of MSP46TutorialsAndTopics.pdf Audio I/O starts on page
36. Don’t forget the dac~ help file.

You should also make sure the driver in DSP status is set to M-audio
multichannel (or something like that).

Good luck
