I have no idea what my schedule is going to be like around then but I can't wait for this now! I guess we'll all be seasoned Max 6 users by then.

oli larkin's icon

sent a message via your submissions page about a workshop proposal...(if it's not too late)

Tim Lloyd's icon

This is looking like it will be brilliant!

brendan mccloskey's icon

bumping this to ask:

Any UK-based Maxers going to Leicester next month?

Brendan

David Butler's icon

I'll be going, great to see a UK based Max event!

Medd's icon

@Brendan I should hopefully be coming down, depending on how my schedule's looking around then (someone has already picked me up a ticket just in case).

I got your message through my site's contact form, by the way, although I wasn't sure if you'd mixed me up with another message you might have been sending - you addressed me Jason, not James ;-) - I'll look into the blog-following issue you mentioned. Either way, my new blog hasn't quite kicked off properly yet, I should be posting some updates towards the end of this month but I've been super-busy actually working on stuff for a change!

brendan mccloskey's icon

@dickmedd

sorry - James. No idea where Jason came from, had loads of windows open. Damn it, wimmin are right: men can NOT multitask :(

Hope to see you at M4_U

Brendan

Luke Woodbury's icon

@Brendan

You betcha!

roger.carruthers's icon

Sorely tempted to venture out of Wales for this, even though I do have my viva the following week, not to mention work & family commitments.
Fingers crossed...
Roger

brendan mccloskey's icon

@roger
best of luck with the viva!

Brendan

Johnnyc777's icon

Im from Leicester and will certainly be attending, A couple of the guys are lecturers at my uni so I know its gonna be high quality! Bret Battey is a polybrain!

seanzshow's icon

Full schedule is up now!!!

...and tickets on sale!!!!

its looking like a really great event so it would be great to see you all there!

Luke Hall's icon

Can you recommend anywhere to stay if I manage to come up for both days?

seanzshow's icon

We are working on a promotional code from a nearby hotel. It'll be on the site in the next few days if we get it.
The Leicester Ibis is pretty cheap though, and so close you could probably watch the conference from your window!

Hope that helps, be good to see you there.

Luke Hall's icon

Thanks for the tip! I hope to see everyone there!

Roman Thilenius's icon

thanks in advance for putting all the releated patches online. :)

seanzshow's icon

Thats a good point! I'll see what I can do.

brendan mccloskey's icon

...only 20 more sleeps....

seanzshow's icon

Further to the point about accommodation, there is now loads of info on the site about local hotels!

Happy New Year!!!

Luke Hall's icon

Excellent! Travelodge looks the best bet personally, almost everywhere else costs more than the conference price per night!

seanzshow's icon

Hi,

Check the site for details of the new speaker added to the schedule!!

Lorenzo Picinali will talk about Max/MSP in his research covering topics such as

Virtual Reality Interactive Environments for the Blind

The Sound of Proteins

Audio and Haptics Interaction

Multimedia and Audiology Networks

Wetterberg's icon

woohoo. Just booked it all - I'll be staying at the IBIS, mainly because it's like 300-400 meters from Phoenix.

I'll be there on the 12th - does anyone want to meet up for dinner and a geekout?
Andreas - flying in from Copenhagen.

nick rothwell | project cassiel's icon

Andreas: will be great to meet you at last. (I forgot you were in Copenhagen - I worked on a Max installation there a month or two ago.)

brendan mccloskey's icon

Hi Andreas
I'm in the Ibis too, flying in from the equally exotic Belfast.

Brendan

Wetterberg's icon

Wicked - been looking forward to this (and I must confess to sulking for a month when I missed the expo in New York)
Who else is hard at work actually finishing patches right now? ;)

Brendan: Brilliant! When will you be in?

Nick: Likewise! Such a great opportunity to get together.

Medd's icon

I look forward to seeing everyone 'IRL', although right now I'm just hoping I won't be too grouchy for the first part of the day. I'll be on a train in Manchester around 7:30 to ensure that I won't be missing David Zicarelli and trains make me grouchy at the best of times!

I'll consider bringing my laptop along although I'm quite keen to 'watch from the sidelines' at this event and garner some tips for improving my own work. If anyone's interested though, I might bring this along: http://sonifyou.tumblr.com/

seanzshow's icon

Looks like a cool project! I'd like to have a look.

LiamCormacGould's icon

This sounds great but looking at train prices from liverpool its a whopping £64 return :p Think perhaps I will have to sit this one out and practice at home instead :)

brendan mccloskey's icon

@Andreas
Arriving Ibis thurs night around 9 or 10pm

ps "geekout" :)

@Liam
could you stretch to a bus ticket? Or car share? tmtm :)

Brendan

gavspav's icon

I'll be at the Ibis on the 12th. Am up for meeting up too.

LiamCormacGould's icon

@Brendan
bus is cheap to be sure 11-15pound each way but takes 5 hours :D (five hours! That's how long it takes to london :P, probably ridiculous waits between changes). Anyway that would mean staying an extra night which would eat the savings. Wish I'd seen this earlier then might have been able to plan better.

Wetterberg's icon

BTW, I tried a few of these transport booking sites listed on the m4_u site, some spat out crazy prices like 97gbp from london - http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/ came up with just 20 pounds each way, which I find rather reasonable.

seanzshow's icon

Cool, I'll add that to the site now!

Cheers

Wetterberg's icon

well, it's already on there, BUT they actually do the full trip with bus and train, not just trains as stated.

seanzshow's icon

Yea, seen that now. Cheers anyway!

Medd's icon

Tickets bought, £70 return from Manchester inc. booking fee. Don't forget, UK rail fares have seen increases of up to 11% this year so it ain't going to be cheap unless you buy super early. Luckily that's an 'anytime' return, meaning if I get delayed I can still get home!

Less than a week to go!

roger.carruthers's icon

Doesn't look like I'll be able to make it, so how much of it are you streaming and what time does the stream kick off?
Will there be an archive, or just a live stream?
Cheers
Roger

seanzshow's icon

Hi Roger,

Thanks for the interest! Due to reliability/quality issues there will be no live stream. We are however working on putting together an archive for some parts of the schedule that will be available through the website a week or so after the event.

Hope that answers some questions!

roger.carruthers's icon

Shame; when I saw that /media/stream page, I thought...
Just because they ask us stream everything you could feasibly call an 'event' where I work, I'd assumed this was becoming the norm ;-)
I'll look forward to viewing the archive, then,
Cheers
Roger

Jan Klug's icon

Hey Andreas & Nick & Brendan etc,

I'll be flying in from Amsterdam early the 12th; I'll stay in a B&B instead of the Ibis, but i hope that won't disqualify me for the geekout ;)

Cheers
Jan

nick rothwell | project cassiel's icon

It won't disqualify you, but we may not talk to you due to collective jealousy that you'll be getting a good breakfast.

brendan mccloskey's icon

@nick

Ibis "all-you-can-eat" breakfast might be a winner?

Brendan

nick rothwell | project cassiel's icon

I think that's highly unlikely.

Medd's icon

'Ibis', 'breakfast' and 'winner' don't often appear in the same sentence from experience. Saying that, it'll be better than the pile of toss I'll be getting on my train journey Friday morning ;-)

Wetterberg's icon

Well I just dug out my converting Swiss Army travel adapter; I'm ready for anything.

I don't think I'll be bringing a lot apart from ipad, wacom, laptop and some lemur patches.
Oh, and my appetite for trashy breakfast foods is coming too, I hear.

I'm checking in as Andreas Wetterberg @ibis, and my mobile is (0045)51 92 59 29, just in case.

(I wonder if I'm the only one digging around for proper patches in long lost folders right now?)

brendan mccloskey's icon

:p

ps Andreas; trawling the HD myself too

nick rothwell | project cassiel's icon

@Andreas no you're not... I'm currently trying to get all my Clojure code to compile again. (I need some of it for the workshop and the rest of it for the Saturday night gig.)

Wetterberg's icon

@noob: rofl. Oh god, there's gonna be sooo many jokes along those lines. Yikes, I'm glad my wife's not coming, she'd off herself right then and there.

speaking of clojure, it said somewhere that we'd need to sign up for the workshops, but I can't see the signup lists anywhere? You know anything I don't?

I just located an old Jitter sequencer that I can actually use for stuff. Not this nonsense I made a while back:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=90EV0ovMzj0

nick rothwell | project cassiel's icon

Sorry - I don't know anything about the workshop signup, or the admin/organisation in general - ask @seanzshow.

I'll be arriving in Leicester tomorrow evening (around 9pm). Email me (nick(at)cassiel(dot)com) if you want to hook up...

Tim Lloyd's icon

woo! Finally got round to buying a ticket.

see y'all there

Wetterberg's icon

@Nick - alright, I dropped you an email.

seanzshow's icon

Hi, some clarification on workshop sign-up

Hope this clears things up.

Really looking forward to meeting you all over the weekend.

Oli Mason's icon

Anyone know where to find the workshop sign up webpage?

the link in the above post doesn't say where the signup page is.

Cheers

Wetterberg's icon

You sign up on the bottom of the page for each individual workshop

nick rothwell | project cassiel's icon

Just wanted to say a big thanks to Sean for all his hard work and enthusiasm during the weekend. It was all a blast, and very worthwhile! Stay in touch, guys.

Luke Woodbury's icon

Ditto, really great event. Well done Sean, hope its going to be a yearly thing!

Was great to meet up with everyone and see all the different things that people are up to, really inspirational stuff. Thanks for sharing y'all!

DiGiTaLFX's icon

Yeah agreed, thanks very much Sean. It was a thoroughly enjoyable couple of days :) Would love to see it become a yearly thing like Luke suggests!

brendan mccloskey's icon

Double ditto (?)

The standard of content, location, venue, welcome etc etc for the entire weekend was excellent, too much stuff to discuss here, main inspiration was of course Sean himself. Well done, nuff respec' as we don't say in Co. Down.

Time to head over to the m4_u site and wax lyrical/prosaic there.......the more props he gets, the more likely funders are willing to reinvest in m4_u 2013 I guess.

Brendan

Wetterberg's icon

Travelled for 13 hours today on only 3 hours of sleep and a slight hangover... phew.

Thanks to all of you for a great vibe and a great learning experience - especially Jan, Nick, Sean, Tarik, Henrique, Adrian and Gavin. You're all amazing and I really hope to get some great collaborations going.

Much love and tired patchings,
a.

gavspav's icon

Yeah it was fun. Hope it happens again. Thanks everyone.

Good to see what a good looking bunch of well adjusted individuals we all are he he!

Richard Garrett's icon

Ditto.

I had a great time and it was really nice to meet you all.

Thank you again to sean

see you all at the next one!

richard

Medd's icon

Although I could only make Friday and had to make a move towards the end of Tarik's presentation (did we get sound in the end?) I had a very enjoyable time.

@Luke Woodbury: your presentation certainly resonated with me most, expect emails for adivce shortly!

@Bret Battey (if he ever checks here): That CFS composition (and the composition process) really blew my mind. I just wish that had been first thing when my early start wasn't starting to slow my brain down!

@David Zicarelli: It's heartening to know that even the you sometimes look at patches you've made and draw a blank. It's a phenomenon that can slow down many a productive day!

Wish I'd had chance to talk to a few more people but I was combining the day with a reunion too! Same time next year?
