I am wondering which Magnetic Field Sensor I should buy for the applcation in my sound installation. There are so many types, with so many functions, and so many types of measuring units (mV/G/mT/Oe), and so much theory that I can’t keep it all together to make sense! Its also annoying that a lot of the spec pages for sensors don’t provide thier range in respect of the units mentioned above.
Basically, I need a magnetic field sensor to sense the strength/intensity/magnitude of a magnetic field produced by a permanent magnet (probably in the form of a 6 inch speaker), and am wondering which sensors would be the the best for price, applicable range, and simplicity in operation in conjunction with the Arduino. I would like the sensor to send voltages proportional to the distance from the permanent magnet, and give a useable reading even when the sensor is up to 2 feet away.

I don’t know if you still need an answer for that.
What you should do first is to estimate the magnetic strength of the speaker at 2 feet then look for a ratiometric Hall effect sensor with enough sensitivity to catch the field.
I have used this sensor for very short distance (1 inch) but with magnets probably less powerful than those you’ll use.
I bought one of those in the end. It didn’t do me much good after an inch either. I nthe end I didn’t use magnetic sensors. Oh well! Thanks for the reply though :) What application did you use the sensors for?
It was for short distance tracking.
