For those not able to attend the Expo this past weekend, here's my presentation on making "slick" Max standalones...

Unfortunately missed the presentation, but this is INCREDIBLY useful stuff. Thanks!

Yeah very useful. I don't have occasion to make a standalone patch as everything is either for myself, or openly shared, but I've saved in on the offchance that I want to build something contained like that. Great work!

Anyone who tried to 'encourage' Cycling74 to provide digital versions of Expo74 resources/materials should say a loud and hearty "Thank you", so....

Thank you

Brendan

Yeah, been loving the files pouring in.

So thank you.

Glad that it's helpful - you won't get *all* the info that I covered in person, as I expounded on a few things that are not in the slides, but the bulk of it you now have. Happy to answer questions as best as I can for those that couldn't be there to ask them in person!

This is a great - a must-read for anyone wanting to make good quality standalones/apps.

Thank you so much for such a useful article. I've now been able to add custom icons and an About section to my standalone which I've been wanting to know how to do for a while.

One thing I'd like to ask though...

I noticed that in your 'pre-slickened', original menus your app's name is showing instead of 'Max Runtime' in the first menu, ie., 'Hide my-cool-app' and 'Quit my-cool-app'.

I understand how to use the script in [menuitem] to make the menu display 'About app name', but would really like to know how to make my app name replace 'Max Runtime' in the rest of the menu items. I've been struggling trying to find information on this. Could you please point me in the right direction?

Many thanks in advance.

Well what do you know.... I'm assuming you're on Max 6? I ask because I just tried on Max 6, and see that I cannot get it to do "Quit my-cool-app" either, but when I revert to Max 5, it works just fine. I will report it to Cycling.

Thanks!

Many thanks for the quick reply. Yes, I'm on Max 6.

I'll build through Max 5 then in that case.

Thanks for confirming that it's a bug / change of some sort and that Max hasn't beaten me!

And thanks again for your excellent PDF. :) I learned so much in such a short space of time by using it.

**Edit - working perfectly on Max 5. Cheers!

When I try to click through it just takes me to an "about:blank" page, is there a direct url anywhere?

I heard from someone else that had that problem too - I can't fix the link as that's in Cycling's hands, but the other person solved it by using a different browser...

Thanks for that!
