Any maxers in manchester? More specifically, any up and coming maxers?
I’ve been learning it on my own for a couple of years now(very slowly), and
it’d be great to meet up with other people in a similar position.

We could meet up every so often, and go over tutorials, give each other
assingments etc..

Or, if your very good at max, and wouldn’t mind giving a couple of
lessons/coaching, that’d be great too.

Here are some examples of where I’m at max/msp wise:

I’m up the road, in Hebden Bridge.

I seem to be working more with PD at the mo but I would also be keen to get
a little patching circle type thingy going. My skills are kinda basic atm,
so I would be in the, ‘up and coming’, section.

Your instruments look well cool btw.

That’s not too far. I’ve not worked with PD at all, so it’d be nice to see
some of that in action as well. If we get a couple more responses we can
organize a meeting. Or if no one else is into it, we can talk offlist and
see if we get something going just the two of us.

Thanks on the instruments.

Well, that’s 4 of us total, and I have a friend who’s into max who isn’t on
the list who I’m sure would be keen on joining in.

My schedule is wide open (I only have sundays tied up), so I can only speak
for myself in this regard. But we can do something like “The first x-day of
the month”. One of those type of things.
I’ll email all of you and we can talk it through.

Hi fellow Manc/MSP’ers,

1st, say Tuesday evening, of every month sounds good to me.

Where is probably a little more tricky: I wouldn’t mind a floating venue if
we all have lappy’s. Maybe each of us could provide a suitable venue? I’m
up for going to Huddersfield and Mcr, if you peeps would like an evening out
up here I can provide that, might be fun.

I’m not sure if any of us have/can arrange a ‘media lab’ space with
computers and audio visual facilities, so lets just make do.

Otoh, if we wanted to expand our catchment area a little more, I could
probably arrange somewhere that does have a room full of computers with Max
installed but it’s an hour south of Manchester. Certainly an hour and a half
from my home up North.

Thoughts anybody,

I have to check availability, but we have a lab with 24 macs with Max/
MSP/Jitter/Pluggo at the uni, so if Huddersfield is not too far…
otherwise we could use a recital hall and everyone could plug in the
main PA and play their thing…

Scott is on the case I think, and I would certainly join in!

I do my Max/MSPing on a laptop, so I’m good for anywhere.

Until I get a car however, doing an evening/nighttime meeting in
another city is going to be difficult, unless another Manc can give me
a ride back.

Does anyone not have Max/MSP on a laptop?

And, is the 1st Tuesday of the month a problem for anyone?

If were all good with that, we just have to pick the place then.

The original thread was about manchester max/mspers meeting up every
month. Theres apparantly alot of huddersfield maxers though, so it
might move to there?

Huddersfield might be hard to make for me(I’ll have to look up the
evening transit), as I live 40min(by bus) south of Manchester city
centre. I don’t know until what time a meeting in huddersfield would
go, but I have a hard time making it home from the city centre here
with things that end past 11pm, given where I live.

Many people on my course, including myself, study Max MSP in one of our
modules called Interactive Sound Design. As such, there are plenty of Max
MSP freaks here at Huddersfield uni and plenty of facilities. The right
honourable PA Tremblay who replied earlier is one of my tutors here, and I
think Sam Freeman is the new ISD tutor. Everyone here is
friendly/excentric/insane, so you’d be in good company.

I’m definitely interested in meeting up. And thursday is fine with me.
It would be great if there was some carpooling from Manchester to Hudds, as
transit back at night would be rather difficult.
