First Patch First crash.

In a new patcher window presseing shift+cmd+o to get a new object and
pressing shift+cmd+o again without having first made an actual object
crashes max
can anyone reproduce?

yup, ok, people, it’s a wicked way to crash Max 5; I agree, no one else
needs to try this one out, take our word for it, it’s a bug

Seems like it is not just that scenario, but pressing shift+command+o when the new object method has been previously opened with any method (shift+command+o, double-click, shortcut). Double-clicking elsewhere regardless of how you open the object pallet seems to be fine.

I can reproduce. In the meantime, you can just hit ‘p’ in the patcher
to get the object palette.

Dear Cycling Team

Thanks a lot for Max / MSP / Jitter 5. Very good work indeed…..
Congratulations everyone. Thumbs Up !!!!

One of the very good things is that it is very easy to navigate
through the example files, tutorials, helpfiles, documentation etc.

But – there is one tiny remark concerning the Jitter Tutorials:

Only the first of them has got the “Open this tutorial” – link to the
tutorial patch.
The Max and MSP tutorials has all got the links though.

It will probably only take 10 minutes to implement in the next
incremental update.

Patchful regards,

Thomas Sandberg

So, how do we get the free upgrade if we purchased after October 1st?

#127660
Apr 25, 2008 at 5:35am

Awesome. Zooming in and out (patches on my 24″ are usable on my laptop), making it super-easy to keep things neat and clean (and easier to connect patches, too!), the amazing new transport system which is exactly what I’ve been trying to do myself with no luck, drag and drop buffers, super-easy access to references and tutorials, the insanely-useful file browser (no need for dropdowns to a buffer), presentation mode, ‘n’ for a new object, etc., etc., etc….

I’m still just digging in, and of course I’ve got to get used to the new look, but man, what an amazing improvement in usability Max5 is.

Truly top notch, and hopefully the new rounded look thing will grow on me as much as everything else.

I can die happy now (not really). Oh, except for one thing: The new icon sucks. Why just a big 5??? I miss the old icon!!

Well, it might be just coincidence, but check out the photo of my old
HP oscillator (one of the avatar icons on the website). You’ve got to
squint, but there it is the max 5 icon hiding for all these years.

Yes it’s really a 5.

“Caught behind the five ball” somehow doesn’t have the same ring to it.

The icon is the least of my worries. Even if it’s not the nicest part of 5, rest assured it’ll change just when we get used to it.

#127665
Apr 25, 2008 at 2:24pm

Maybe it’s just nostalgia for the wacky old icon, and maybe if the old icon hadn’t of been so cool and wacky, I wouldn’t mind, but considering all the other amazing changes, I think I’m OK with it. (or I might just change the icon back to the old one myself).

Maybe if it actually looked like an oscillator?

As the usability increases, the ugliness of the icon does as well, this
had been a rule since the first days of Max. I still miss the Max 2
icon. The memory of that just triggers an imagination of how beautiful
the Max 1 icon must have been…
Please, those who have such an icon around, do not disturb this dream…

Running newest version of leopard, and Max 5 is the best thing that’s happened to algorithmic composition.
