Here's a few ways of doing it:
- select everything with the mouse and option key pressed
- reselect everything with shift key pressed (it will unselect the  
objects but not the connections)
- Choose hide on lock.

Or, depending on what you want:
- Select Hide connections from the view menu
or
- select every objects and add them to the presentation mode because  
the connections are not displayed in presentation mode.

I didn't notice this before, but right now it's not possible to only select cables in one move?? That's something i do use (apple and option keys and then drag). Not only for hiding cables, but also to align (ortho) multiple cables in one move...

Not a huge problem, but i'd definitely prefer this to the scaling option of the apple key right now...

The behavior is exactly the same as in Max 4.

In max 4, holding apple and option, then dragging allows you to only select cables, not objects, in one go.

This cannot be achieved with max 5 at the moment, as far as i can see. Or am i missing something?

For me, when I press and hold Alt and Cmd, then drag over a group of objects and cables, then release the mouse button:
- In Max 4: only cables are selected
- in Max 5: all objects are selected and Scale mode is enabled.

thank you for all this reponse, for me With max 4 it 's possible to select only cable with a key combinaison (on mac osx) with the same combinaison it's impossible.

for a futur release of max5 it a very cool fonction.

Nope, cmd-alt-dragging will rather put the selected objects in 

Also, try to just select some objects normally, then cmd-alt-drag up 

to another unselected object - that's pretty cool.

Nope, cmd-alt-dragging will rather put the selected objects in  
"scalable mode" (cf Edit menu).
Also, try to just select some objects normally, then cmd-alt-drag up  
to another unselected object - that's pretty cool.

I did. But the Alt-drag (select all) then Shift-drag (deslect objects) is not a very bad alternative..
