I pre ordered the novation launchpad to use with both ableton live and max. I want to control my max sequencer with it and I was wondering the following...

I know I will have no problem to control the patch with the controller but I was wondering how max was sending messages to the controller for it to display different LED colors on each buttons is it possible that the controller uses its velocity value as codes to trigger different colors (or something similar)

I know the controller is not released yet but I'm just trying to get some info so I'm ready once it arrives.
