Max can't count?

May 22, 2008 | 9:30 pm

Dear all, I’m puzzled as max seems to have some issues with basic math.. Please see the attached image.

Max does things right to left. Check the order of execution in your
patch. There are things that are not happening in the order that you
intend.

Max CAN count but the intention detector doesn’t come until version 11.

I would really recommend reading tutorial number 5. (or 7 for those
who are using Max 4). The order of calculation is determinant to
obtain the correct result.

Haha let me put afront: I can’t much max yet.

I have looked into this principe of last is first and right to left, but still can’t explain the results of this patcher, or lay the finger on the sore spot.. :/

You should use floats too instead of integers, especially since you’re dividing.

kinda like this:

– Pasted Max Patch, click to expand. –

the [t b b b] object forces the calculation order. [t] is the same as [trigger] and is your best friend for forcing the order of things.

I’ve tried about everything with the patcher code, but I can’t open it. Probably because I’m still in trial mode?

Once you have everything on your clipboard, including the "———-
begin_max5_patcher———-" and "———–
end_max5_patcher———–" lines, select New From Clipboard from
the File menu.

You need at least 5.0.1 installed to read the compressed code. You also have to make sure you get the "begin_max5_patcher" and "end_max5_patcher" lines in there when you copy.

You can step through your patch step by step with trace. That helps a
lot if something is acting different than you think it should…
