Max communications with midi hardware.

May 18, 2008 | 9:49 am

I found a great patch named evoedit on the web. But I would like to modify it to initialize all the numbers and graphs throughout the patch to match what the DSI evolver synth is at. I’ve looked at sysex, which seems over my head right now, and I’m not sure how to do this in midi. Is there a tutorial that covers Max talking with hardware synths? Any simple basis for where I should start with querying the state of parameters in the synth and loading them in Max?

Basically, I want to use the synth as "hardware nodes" in Max. MIDI would probably be best.

Also, where should I start looking to use Max as a sysex or midi dump for the synth’s banks and patches? Like saving "presets".

Thanks.

Have a look at Peter Elsea’s tutorials at: http://cnmat.berkeley.edu/link/1319
They’re pretty essential reading anyway, and I’m fairly sure there’s one in there called ‘Max and Sysex’,
cheers
