I'm a midi novice and I'm pretty confused about setting up Ableton 9 and max.

specifically trying to go through this tutorial on live visuals (

 and on his mac Max appears as a midi port in Ableton under preferences -> midi sync. attached a photo. on my Windows 8.1 machine this doesn't appear.

getting the impression that I need loopMidi to create a virtual port from this thread

 which I tried but still don't understand. or is this a rewire thing?

any help would be really appreciated. thanks.

Hi, rewire is a separate thing from virtual MIDI ports. Something like loopMidi will be fine - start it up, type in a new port name and hit the '+' button at the bottom to add it, and it should then appear in Live.
