Created a small program in Max and distributing to many people...

The Max Runtime Window is confusing to users. Is there a way to have it NOT VISIBLE by default on startup?

Also, looking for other tips on how to configure the runtime application to provide additional features: 

*) additional menu options (eg, "settings" page for customizing my app)

*) provide audio setup in runtime (some of the users can't get their audio input set up)

*) provide an optional "Help" or "getting started" screen for new users...

*) other tips on customizing the look and feel

Check out the [standalone] object inspector where I think you can hide the max window by default.

Use [menubar] for configuring the main application menu. Look in the help file and you will see how you can use this to open up [patchers] with [pcontrol] which will help you display your "getting started" page.

If you type "DSP Status" (including the "quotes") into an object box in your patch the max DSP status window will be automatically included when you build you application. This might help the people who can't set up their audio properly. You could also open the patch and customise it yourself, it is mostly built around the [adstatus] object.

As for customising the look of your app, you can change the colours and transparency of objects using the inspector, but you can also do this programatically using attributes. Click the @ button at the bottom of the inspector to see all available attributes and then drag them onto your patch to create a ready formatted [message]. Also you might want to look at [pictctrl], [pictslider] and [fpic] for importing custom images into your patch.

I got the Max Window turned off immediately.
