Max taking a very long time to boot

Recently Max has been taking a very long time to boot up, sometimes 1 to 2 minutes. In addition, there are times when the program reacts very slowly for the first few minutes after it has booted. I’m wondering why this might be, and also wondering if and how the newest updates of Max are available to people who have purchased Max, sort of like the Mac ‘software updates’ with a ‘check for updates’ function. The cycling74 site is not the clearest on this.

btw, i’m working on a new MacBook with OSX version 10.5.7.

thanks in advance!

iT boots fine here, but I need to wait up to ten seconds for the helpfiles to launch.

You don’t say whether Max 4 or 5.

The perennial problem on Max 4 was people putting aliases to a network server in their search path. If the server isn’t available, it takes a minute or longer for the connection to timeout, during which time you can twiddle your thumbs.

I haven’t tested if this issue pertains to Max 5, although it might well.
