I can't seem to get the New Object List in max 5 like showed on 

I am only able to list the graphical objects. But i also want to list the other objects, i don't know them all by name...

I can't seem to get the New Object List in max 5 like showed on https://cycling74.com/products/maxup25b and the way it was in max 4.

Now hover your mouse over the left edge of the object. See the little blue circle with an = in it? Click that.

I totally missed that. But to be honest, max5 has some tucked away features like that...

I only get the little blue dot with '=' inside it when creating a new object by typing 'n' while in editing mode, not while in presentation mode. MacBook Pro 2.16 GHz, OSX 10.4.11, Max 5. Can anyone confirm?

Yes, confirmed, is it suposed to be like this?...

I can see no reason that it should be different in editing vs. presentation mode - wouldn't make any sense to me. I'm assuming it's a bug.

Yes, but that's by design. Presentation mode is not for patching.

The = menu button will be available in presentation mode in our forthcoming update when editing the text of an object box, but do you really want to be creating object boxes in presentation mode?

well, i supose thats true, i will not create new objects in presentation mode i guess...

I would, in fact. It would allow me to take maximum advantage of the UI-building power of presentation mode. It will be very useful for placing comments, and other UI-specific objects, once I've got the basics of my presentation mode in place. Being able to tweak the presentation with a few new objects seems like a natural workflow to me.

You can create any object you want in presentation mode, and it is automatically added to the presentation. Same with pasting objects in presentation mode. I originally questioned why someone would spend a lot of time putting object boxes, which have little user interface value, in a presentation. My guess is that you would eventually end up removing them from the presentation.

The inspector button on the right side of any object does not work in presentation mode because it would interfere with the resizing tool on the right side of a box. But this does not apply to the = menu, which only appears when editing the text of an object box, not when it is selected for moving or resizing. That is why it can be enabled it for presentation mode, even though it's kind of a waste.

is it possible to have this "=" option to be a preference as it used to be in 4.6?

I find it very disturbing having to go hit that tiny icon with the mouse pointer...

I'm in the process of learning max (just started 1 week ago), and using 4, which allowed to have the menu pop-up automatically if set as an option turned out to be very helpful in the learning process

Often I start a patch with the GUI elements. If I do that in 

presentation mode, I don't need to change them. I would have two views 

open anyway, so all actual patching is happening in the other window...

But I certainly wouldn't need the = menu, as mostly UI objects will end 

up in presentation mode, but who knows, it also doesn't hurt too much if

Nevermind, I made one myself. Here it is if anyone else misses it.

Put it in your init folder (in case anyone didn't know).

Don't forget that you can also browse the objects in the File Browser.

or you could just look at the file browser, under 'objects' and drag your choice in, instead of squinting at the little pop-up menu. :)

Max doesn't like my object list. Max crashes when I try to use most of it. Maybe a size limit on how many items can be in a object list?

The previous list was screwy, but this cleaned up fixed on crashes too.
