[max5] Patch window focus

May 31, 2008 | 11:57 pm

When I have the documentation open and I double click in my (single)
patcher window, the patcher window stays inactive (keyboard
focus/title bar – new object ‘n’ key doesn’t work), but the object
palette comes up and I can select objects but I can not navigate via
the key commands (ie: arrow keys, tab, etc). Why do I have to click on
the windows title bar to make it active? Shouldn’t clicking in the
window make it active? Not sure if this is a bug or if it’s related to
the logic of the interface but it ‘feels’ like a bug. Clicking on a
window ‘should’ make it active in my opinion and does in most other
software.

Max 5.0.2, Powerbook G4 1.67Ghz, 10.4.11

Anyone else experiencing this?

Yep, same problem here, i use a lot of keyboard shortcuts and the focussing in max5 doesn’t work as i would expect (yet?).

Most likely you enabled All Windows Active from options menu.

Disable it and it will behave like this. In the meantime, with
All Windows Active, control-clicking in a background window gives you the option to select that window.

Ah yes, now it works much better. I can’t remember turning that option on… So what does it officially do?

All Window Active lets you layer windows on screen and operate the Max
items in any of the windows that are visible without bringing that
window to the front.

It’s useful sometimes.

Well, I didn’t turn on the All Windows Active mode. I just bought Max
5 and have just been looking at docs so far. It must be on by default.
Seems a little unintuitive to me to be on by default.
