I just upgraded to max6. Any ideas on why my patches that were made in max5 are not opening in max6? I imagine there is really an obvious solution that i am completely overlooking. Also, all of my patches are messed up even if i open them in max 5 now. What do I do? Everything is in the correct search paths, etc....

Been having the same issue since beta. Even uninstalled Max 5. Talked to support about it; can't figure it out! It's very strange. Also having some more issues; specifically the "buffer~: could not parse file bn0, err -1" error with any buffer.

What operating system are you using, etc? Maybe if we can figure out the similarities between setups it will end up being something simple.

If you put your patches from Max 5 into the Max 6 application folder they will open.

having the same problem...running on 10.7.2 but if i rename the patches and put it on my desktop it will open...any

What is the full path to your Max 6 app folder?

Hm. this is Windows 7 64-bit. I don't know about 'applications' folder, but i tried putting it in 'examples' folder, and it still crashes. Also I tried oipening a max6 msp benchmark which someone had made in Max 6 on a Mac OS, and it also crashed.

I can confirm that placing them in the Max 6 folder makes them work... but that's still a bug right? I can't imagine why they would do that on purpose. Any way to fix it? I'd rather be able to put my Max patches with related school project and/or audio.

well...No ! placing max 5 patch in Max 6 don't work here.

Also in order to use my patchs ( in Max 5), I defined new files paths

and only to do this make Max 6 crashed immediately.

jodee's trick works for me (osx.7.2) ... hope this can be fixed soon ..

now MAx 6 crash as soon as I try to modify the file preference

I have try to trash the preferences, but no effect

I guess it is a bug - but not a small one

ok guys, there seem to be a bunch of different problems reported here. Please would all of you write in to support so we can get you going? If you are a "Max5 patchers won't open in 6" person please send in a patch which won't open in 6, we are unable to reproduce this internally so please include as much detail as you can about your system.

HI, Im the Windows 7 64-bit one, and I suspect it is a more glbal problem, as there are crashes also when opening a Max 6 patch made by someone else on Mac OS. I'll send it in to support too, thanks )

I had the same issue (Max5 patches won't open in 6). I tried to put the patch in different folders. It opens from all other folders, excepted from folders whose name contains a slash (/).

It seems that patches won't open from a folder whose name contains a slash (this is legal in MacOS, but presumably not in Unix).

That isn't the problem in my case, there are no forward slashes in the Windows pathnames where the files are located. I tried putting them in the examples folder, to no avail. Another thread suggested deleting the preferences file, I tried that, then Max 6 wouldn't start until after a reboot, which i don't understand at all.

...I found the problem. One has to put the files in the root folder of the searchpath. It's the subfolders of the searchpath that don't work (this was on Windows 7 64 bit).
