Max5 to Max6 (M4Live) audio problem
Hi, I have a MSP patch with a phasor~ driving a wave~, running inside Max for Live. It’s a bit too complex to post here… The patch works fine in Max for Live in Max 5, but when I switch to Max6, the audio seems to be very noisy. It sounds like downsampling or something like that…
Am I the only one having this problem?
Is there something I’m missing? Are there operations to do before transfering a Max5 patch to Max6?
Thanks a lot!
See if you can narrow it down a bit and show us a patch.
The first thing to check is if it sounds different in Max 5 vs Max 6 – take Live out of the picture.
Let us know
This patch works fine in Max 5 and Max 6. In Live, in only works Ok using Max 5. Switching Live to Max 6 gives me crappy downsampling noise…

To me, that seems like a huge problem. Anyone can reproduce it?
Ableton just released a new Max for Live instrument:
If I run this on Live 8.2.6 with Max 5, it works fine. If I run it with Max 6, I get severe crackles. The crackles are not just in the audio output, because if I resample it in Live and export it as a WAV file, the crackles are still there. I have already reported the problem both to Ableton and Cycling ’74.
I can’t reproduce this problem. Live 8.2.6, Max 6.01 ,Mac 10.6.8.
Email in to support if you like
I sent a email to support on friday and I didn’t had any news on the issue…
Please help, there are really good advantages at using Max 6, and I can’t wait to use it… I was sad, just after buying Max 6 to have to get back to Max 5 in order to get my patches to work.
I’ve been having the same problems using M4L with Max 6 for any of my patches. Max 5 and 6 work fine independently including Max 5 with M4L. The crackling noise can only sometimes disappear when I increase the buffer length to its maximum (on my Focusrite Saffire 6) but only for a very short time. My audio settings (buffer/vector size) aren’t an issue in Max 5 or 6 by itself or from using Ableton… This crackle still occurs just running through the Max Audio Effect template (plugin~ to plugout~).
However, I’ve found on a synth patch in M4L that when it runs in preview mode (through the device editor) there is a slight delay between the sound and that crackling noise yet when it runs just as a device in Ableton the two sounds occur together. My best guess is that there may be an issue between signals travelling from Max to Ableton and vice versa.
I’ve also reinstalled Live (8.2.6), Max 6 (6.0.1) plus my latest audio interface driver (updated for Nov 29th).
Help would be very much appreciated
The new update for Live (8.2.7) seems to fix the issue!
