MaxMSP 4.6 and Jitter 1.6 Universal Binary release

Hi All,

We’re pleased to announce that the Macintosh Univeral Binary release
versions of MaxMSP and Jitter are now ready for download. Let us know
if you encounter any problems. As always, please provide detailed
information of any bugs with system details and steps to reproduce.

Very Good…

I just generated an application with my patches, with many different
custom mxo, jnilib and jar, and it’s working perfectly on both Powerbook
and Macbook.
(Just have to add custom jar, jnilib into app/Contents/MacOS)

Thanks,
Chris

hello,
would there be any upgrade reason for those of us still in PPC-world
to upgrade to this version?

Have a look at the changelog for MaxMSP and Jitter, but for Jitter the
new functionality includes:

->improved render to texture support
— depth textures now available
— floating point pbuffers now available for doing high dynamic range
shading and audio on the GPU
— jit.gl.render @capture now works properly

-> new objects including jit.gl.multiple and jit.gl.imageunit

There are also some other additions to jit.gl.sketch for more precise
opengl control.
But the biggest of all is that you can now develop externals in xcode
and junk codewarrior.

i see pluggo and hipno versions won’t be until september, but they’ll
continue working in this upgrade, correct?

Yes the following is unclear to me too, as according to the release notes:

“Versions of Pluggo, Mode, and Hipno that are compatible with Max/MSP 4.6 are not yet available. We hope to release these versions by mid-September.”

But does this mean the current Pluggo (or other non-UB VSTs) won’t run in the vst~ object in Max/MSP 4.6 or that Plug-ins written in 4.6 are unusable by the current version of Pluggo?

Also for us PPC/Panther users are non-UB 3rd party externals compatible with Max/MSP 4.6?

/me is a little confused
TIA
Jonny

Something I’m curious about that the changelog (etc) doesn’t document:

What (if anything) has changed since 4.6b11?

I was getting a reproducible JS Task related crash in 4.6b11 that I don’t seem to be able to reproduce in 4.6.0. I wonder if I’m kidding myself, or if you’ve fixed some bugs in this area? The crashlog was always some variant of this:

Exception: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (0×0001)
Codes: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE (0×0002) at 0×00000001

Thread 0 Crashed:
0 com.cycling74.MaxJSRef 0x05d11e74 JS_IsArrayObject + 12
1 com.cycling74.jsui 0x059b54d0 jstask_getargs + 56
