Workaround: Create a ‘dummy’ pluggo, that does nothing, but contains some
parameters anyhow. And load it instantly while patcher opens [vst~ dummy].

Hi,

i need to save many tiffs in a folder, and I counted on the
‘exportimage’ message to a jit.matrix to do this. Only thing is that I
need to set the compression to ‘none’ or the equivalent.

Exportimage gives me a choice between the default settings (with
compression) or forcing a dialog for each tiff. I use it to render
large image files, one for each frame of a (35mm) film, so setting the
compression manually for each frame is not an option.
If I set it once manually, the settings don’t ‘stick’ for the
subsequent frames, and I’d rather do it programmatically anyway, so
that I can’t forget to set it..

Is there another aproach I could think of which gives me large series
of uncompressed tifffs ?
I tried saving one-frame-movies from jit.qt.record, but those give me
quicktime movie-files, not tiff files, and those won’t do, even if they
contain the right data.

Can I change the (default) settings for exportimage somehow ?

help GREATLY appreciated,
thanks,

Joost.

Is there a way to access the enclosing poly~ object from within a
poly-enclosed subpatcher? In a javascript in an enclosed poly patcher,
the “this.patcher” property refers, as expected, to the patcher that
poly~ is wrapping. But neither the “box” property nor the
“parentpatcher” property seem to return a usable object.

Using this js in a poly~-wrapped patcher:

var poly1 = this.patcher.box;
var poly2 = this.patcher.parentpatcher;
function loadbang() {
post( poly1 ); // displays “jsobject 0″ in max window
// comment out the previous error to see this evaluate
post( poly2.maxclass );
}

The documentation references the “subpatcher” method to access
subpatchers inside a poly~ object once you have a reference to the poly~
object in your script, but I can’t figure out how to access a reference
to the poly~ object from inside it…

Any help is greatly appreciated,

Hi,
has anyone help on physical modeling in general and of a struck
menbrane (such as a Timpani) in special.
Articles on waveguides generally come up with graphics much like
electronic diagrams with lots of triangles and squares – but where’s
the wave, and in MSP – how do i induce an oscillation to be shaped?
Is physical modeling in Max possible without the use of external c(++)
or Java programing (for the first i’m lacking knowledge and software
and for the latter max 4.5 as well)?

Hello

Another one for the Hive Mind:

I would like to be able to view the markers that I place on quicktime
tracks from FCP 5. If I export a video track from my sequence that
has markers, I am given the option to include all of my markers with
the saved out QT file. When reading this exported quicktime with
Jitter, I am able to see there is a timecode track, but I have not
been able to decipher how to get the frames the markers are on from
this extra track.

Ive checked the Jitter tutorials, and the Docs, and don’t see
anything specifically about this, or how to get data from other
tracks that dont necessarily contain video/audio data.

Essentially, id like to use the markers as metadata for “interesting
temporal points in a movie”, and synch them to BPM, so for example,
if I have a somewhat cyclical movie of someone walking, or some
process like a glass breaking, I can add a marker at that point, save
the file, read it in with Jitter and be able to interpolate the
proper speed to always land on these interesting points.

Make sense?

If I use a quicktime track, the metadata stays with the QT as well,
which is the most preferable and portable way of doing it.

Any hints?

Thanks

Sure. However…

FCP markers are stored, not in the Timecode track, but rather in a
Text (Chapter) track. At this time, there’s no way to get the data
out of a Text track using Jitter; neither the text nor the time
positions of the samples in it. This sort of thing has been on my to-
do list for a while, though, and will hopefully get added at some point.

You may be able to do some fancy exporting and parsing of the Text
track using Jitter or AppleScript. From QT Player, I turned my Text
track into this file:

{QTtext}{font:Geneva}{bold}{clipToTextBox:on}{size:12}{textC olor: 0,
0, 0}{backColor: 65535, 65535, 65535}{justify:center}{timeScale:2997}
{width:720}{height:20}{timeStamps:absolute}{language:0}{text Encoding:
256}
[00:00:00.0000]
Markierung 1
[00:00:01.0903]
{textEncoding:256}Markierung 2
[00:00:02.1206]

You could do similar using Jitter’s export message, use regexp or js
to parse the data into time code values, and then convert these to
frame #s using the movie’s timescale information.

Sorry it’s not the easy solution I’m sure you were hoping for. I’ll
see what we can do for a future release of Jitter.

I found 2 possible workarounds, but they are really annoying.

1: use different instances of gl.model for every model that you use, and
switch render context using drawto. I have to keep sending all the
position, material and other configurations to all of the models. Is
this going to charge my gpu if the objects are not rendered to a window?

2: Bring all the different object together in one obj file and put them
in different groups. I think this is a better one than the first, but
also not very handy if have to make files with all the possible objects
that you might want to use one day.

Please tell me there is a better way.

Hello,

I use your first workaround with no problems (50 to 100 models) to create
models animations.

I was using the drawto message, and then I discover the “enable” flag.

From my experience, the objects that are not drawn are not charging the GPU.

Thanks Bertrand, that’s good news. I couldn’t really use the second
option after all, because it makes the original function of drawgroup
useless. I’m really happy that the first one seems to be no problem.

Hi – I’m new to the list and a month into Max.

I tried instantiating an XML parser in Javascript, in Max/MSP, and couldn’t
find one. This seems unfortunate. Am I missing something? Is there one
included? ( I tried DOMParser and searched for sample code )

I finally used a parser built out of regular expressions – which works I
guess. Though, it’s not super clean.

I tried using [ detox ] and the tap parser, though they didn’t load the file
contents into a DOM tree like structure I’m familiar with.

Thanks for any thoughts.
