MAXMSP Newbie… Can Anyone Help???

I’m totally new to MaxMSP, and I’m currently working through the Electronic Music
& Sound Design Book (Cipriani & Giri), which is really helping, but there is only so
much you can learn form a book. Right?
So, I figured… I’d venture onto here, and see if anyone could help me out with my
micro projects?!?!?
I wanted to design a lil’ patch that could play snip its of random samples. I think I’ve
got the first bit right, but what do I need to connect to the output to play the sounds?

Sorry if this is a really dumb question. Any help would be much appreciated.

You need an object like groove~ or play~ to play samples back from your buffers. And, you need an object like ezdac~ to send sound to your audio outputs.

This should get you going, let me know if you need anything else,

Also check out the waveform~ object.

Hey Guys,
Thanks for your help. I’ve been playing around with both the ideas you posted, and the patch you added.
But, I’m sooooooooooo confused. Learning this programming software isn’t coming easy!
I’ve added some changes to the patch, but I don’t understand why the patch won’t work???
Any ideas where I have gone so wrong with this?
Again, any help or ideas you have will be much appreciated.

Try this, i made a few amendments,

I think you needed to cut out the ‘umenu’ object, i added a ‘select’ object, this looks for whatever numbers you tell it to then send out a bang out its outlet.

Groove can be a very temperamental object, whenever it doesn’t work for me i copy and amend the one out the help file.

also you post patches in here, if you select the objects you want and right click ‘copy compressed’ and paste it in the forum it make life a lot easier.

If you need anymore help let me know,
