MIDI and Live as Rewire Slave

December 21, 2008 | 10:37 pm

I have Ableton Live 6 running as a slave to Max 5 via the rewire object. I can send midi from Max to a midi channel in Live.

What I can’t do is send midi data from Max to say a knob in Live. Any ideas on how to do this? I basically wanna send some data in max to knobs or parameters in Live. Almost like using Max as a virtual midi controller. When you click the midi map button in Live you see all these parameters highlighted in blue, hwo do I send max midi data to one of those? I’ve been searching for an answer but haven’t found anything yet…

Ableton Live supports MIDI Learn. How do you have MIDI working at the
moment? IAC? You’re on a Mac, right?

I’m using Windows XP on a PC.

Sending a midi message to the rewire~ object sends midi to a midi channel in Live. I can send note data thats about it…

I’m basically just toying with the rewire example in max. It seems to be working fine other than I can’t get my head around the midi routing..

Use MIDIyoke to send your controller data.

if you can send note data, you can send CC data. make sure the midi data you send has the correct status byte. You’ll want a status byte between 176 and 191 (it’s probably 144 right now, which is to send a note on message on the first channel).
