I'm experiencing the same probkem. I don't think it has anything to do w/ my patch. It was working before.
I'm running a Macbook Pro 2.4 4GB Ram.

There is nothing wrong with your patch.

Make sure that:

  • the output MIDI port you want to use is On (in the MIDI Setup… menu)

  • the right port is chosen for noteout by double clicking on the object or sending it the right port message

thanks for your response.

I checked my MIDI Setup and everything is checked. still nothing.
this is pretty strange because I've had it working before.

I just did a reinstall and everything is working fine now.

thanks again.

Did anyone figure this out? It's strange to me that in my patch, I can't double click the 'noteout 1' to get the menus that show up.. whereas in the help reference, I can do this and get options. When I make a new patch and put noteout there, I can get the menus. Is there something that interferes with noteout? I've checked the lock state of the patches.. here's the messy fm patch I'm trying to make..

The noteout in your patch works here.

Hey Bill, thank you for looking at it and letting me know it works on your end! I hate to ask about a problem that you can't replicate, but do you know of any likely reasons why it wouldn't work on my end? If I open any other patcher, I can double-click noteout and get a dropdown list. In this patch I sent in my live set, doubleclicking any noteout event doesn't do anything. Somehow I think I broke noteout? Would it be related to a pttrstorage and editing after the pttr stores values? I'd really not like to have to reinstall but may have to. Error logs show nothing..

Sorry Jay - I have no idea what could be causing it. :-(

On rare occasions an object has somehow become corrupted, but it's so rare that I can't remember the fix. Delete and remake the object? ... the patch? Restart Max? ... your computer? Copy a working noteout from the help file? But these are just "try anything" guesses...

Thank you Bill, it gives me a bit of assurance that I didn't do anything visibly wrong and that there isn't a gotcha out there that people know about. Yeah maybe somehow the patch is corrupted.. I appreciate your help and will see what gets it back to normal :)!

Sorry to beat my head against this some more, but was anyone able to get this to work inside Live via a m4l instrument (as opposed to standalone or disconnected from Live)? I'm just starting out with max, but wonder if this is just something obvious I'm not seeing or if I need to contact support to get it fixed?

M4L devices can send midi only to the track where the device is loaded.
So port selection of noteout is disabled by design.

OHHHH! Thank you that definitely explains it, it was super tough to find any documentation on this but maybe I just overlooked it? Do you know if there's a way to have this functionality via a workaround of some sort? Thank you for allowing me to focus on other alternatives

Thanks for your help! I had a tough time understanding how to use that but managed to send midi to another track with send and receive messages, props to jonbenderr for the suggestion. Here are the max midi effect patches for anyone with the same issue.
