Midi Notes transmitted using a Phone Modem ???

Hi,

I have a need to transmit midi notes over a phone line.
I will not be midi-jamming or even making music – I only want to send a few
midi notes over a phone line.

I am doing this in order to remotely trigger midi devices in different cities. I know I can do this via IP but many corporations do not want to
adjust their firewalls to allow for such nonsense.

If I can use a phone modem at the transmitting/receiving ends then i can bypass IT departments.

Has anyone ever heard of using MAX to do this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated :>

if you dont need to transmit many notes, maybe you could use create something like dialtones and recognize them on the other end. (in the old max 4 days, there was always a dialtone example…).
i would experiment with sigmund~ as pitch recognition.
if you need to transmit say 5 different notes, choose 5 frequencies distant enough that sigmund could get them.

and, i would be curious to know, what you are up to….sounds like fun.

In the good Max5 days, the dialtone example is still there, as the same place as before: Max5/examples/synths/dialer.maxpat.

Actually I meant to say “not more than a few notes at one time”.
I would like to be able to use the full midi-channel-range of notes.

Yes – I have used DTMF tones before – it works fine but is very limited
in tones available.
