I'm trying to use a midi controller directly in a device. Setting the specific port for the ctlin and notein objects doesn't work in this environment. All events on all ports are always received no matter what.

Thanks for the link. That sums it up nicely. I can live with that.

These objects allow you to send midi directly to your chosen ports, disregarding the settings on the live channel.

It's good to know they exist. I am currently fine following the maxforlive restrictions. I just had to realize what they are.
