Mixing signals to dac~ object

Does anyone know haw to pan the signals being sent to the dac~ object? I can only get the siganls to come out hard left or right. I have tried doing things with ctlout 10 but this only seems to affect sounds from the internal synth. Is there a mixer object that can be used with the dac~ object?

There is a pan2 abstraction included in the Max distribution.
