more accurate way to simulate mismatched sampling rate?

April 16, 2008 | 8:01 pm

Hello, all.
I’m creating a small standalone app that high school students can use to test the effects of different bit depths and sampling rates.
Obviously, the degrade~ object will be put to use.
I’d also like to simulate what loading an audio file recorded at one sampling rate would sound like if loaded into a DAW session set to a different one.
Should I just do this with playback speed? Or is there a more interesting way to do this?
Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks!

Playback speed seems like a good approach to me. You might want to include some way to audition the sounds back-to-back or even simultaneously. Otherwise the pitch shift may not be immediately obvious to every ear.

You may also want to look at lp.nn~ from Litter Power. Sort of degrade~ on steroids. It’s in the Starter Pack. URI below.
