Motu 828 playthrough

I am unable to turn on the playthrough OR choose an output using a first gen motu 828. I have all the current motu drivers, any ideas?

What operating system/platform?

In what software are you missing the option? Max/MSP? All software? The OS control panels? Motu’s console?

I am running the most recent max/msp on osx 10.4.4 when I am in the dsp menu in max it does not even give me the option to change output/playthrough.

Can you confirm you see the 828 in the OS sound control panel? What about the MOTU Firewire Audio application?

It would help if you gave all the steps you’ve tried to get it working.

I assume that when you say “playthrough”, you mean the input monitoring,
right? I haven’t tried this myself in MAX/MSP because I like all my
latencies to be similar (in other words, I “playthrough” by mixing the audio
input with whatever sounds I’m creating in MAX, and then send the mixed
results to the 828′s main outs); however, if you want to turn on the input
monitoring, you might try doing so *before* starting MAX. you can do it from
the MOTU FW Audio Console app that’s provided with the driver install.

Hi,

If you open patch “01. Test tone” in the MSP Tutorials folder and click
start, do you hear any sound?

Best wishes,

I ended up opening all the sound config windows and settting up the motu before starting max and things just worked. I had tried this before, but no dice. Then also, which was probably the “duh” part, I downloaded an update for OSX. I’m thinking it might have had to do with the most recent motu driver and not the most recent OSX update. Thanks to EVERYONE who had great suggestions for this frustrating issue!
