multi panning within a single instrument track, possible?

February 9, 2010 | 7:44 pm

here i am again with another question, btw sorry if i’m creating an average of one topic per day, but as you can imagine i’m discovering new things constantly, and audio is for me a completely unexplored field.

what i’m asking for is something probably unusual, and could be something impossible, but it’s worth giving it a try.

Track panning in live is obviously a single parameter which applies to the whole track, but i would like to have a separate panning for each note of an instrument (a grandpiano for example).

So that i can control separately (and dynamically) the panning for each note, and this should keep working even if i play more than one note at the same time (a chord for example).

I tried to search myself for such a function, and i found that this is possible for example in the Impulse device, where each sound is a separated sample with its own pan.

I couldn’t find this option in instruments like the grandpiano (which i believe is a simpler), but i thought it might be possible, since as far as i know each note is a sample (in fact the device says "multisample").

Would be amazing if someone teach me how to achieve this, either with or without maxforlive (but i guess that max will be needed..)

Anyone? I really hope there is a way, my fingers are crossed.

Thanks a lot for your help!
