multitouch mousepad on mac

hi folks,

been trying to integrate the various mouse objects in max into some patches of mine, but i have been unable to access the multi-touch information from my laptops mousepad.

after searching the forums and maxobjects, i found no trace or reference to using the two-finger input on an apple laptop.

if anyone knows of an external or some hidden functionality of the mouse object i’m missing it would be a great help.

thanks
trent

Do you want actual multi-touch info, or just the scroll events? I
don’t believe the multi-touch info makes it out of the hardware. I
can get scroll events from the ‘hi’ object by looking at event #6
when focussing on “Apple Internal Keyboard/Trackpad 2″ on my
powerbook. I only get events when scrolling in the vertical
direction. Not sure how to get horizontal scrolling, I don’t think
that is part of the HID spec.

Hope that helps.

Thanks so much for the quick response.
I’m not after the actual multitouch information, but yes, just the scroll events. What I was hoping for was both horizontal and vertical though. Perhaps there is an external somewhere enabling this?
thanks again

Grab the HID Explorer sample code from Apple, and see if you can find
a horizontal scroll element. I only found a Generic Desktop Wheel
element that is triggered by vertical motion. They may be pulling
horizontal events at a lower level and injecting them directly into
scroll views, as I don’t recall seeing a parameter for scroll
direction (x/y) in any of the HID code I’ve looked at. Its been a
while though, so I could be mistaken about that.

Good luck.

Old thread but even more relevant nowadays since there are so many more apple multitouch trackpadded laptops out there. has anyone found any info on this stuff? can’t seem to get anything from [hi] except a two finger vertical scroll. apple os and apps deal with 4 finger gestures.

I remember hearing about someone creating a multitouch object or framework for max. Don’t know if its relevant here as i think he was using the stantum screen, but gonna look into this now.
