I've been studying the Max API and the examples and I've come across something I can't figure out. It says you can mix use of proxies and regular inlets. Out of curiosity, I've been trying to figure that out but can't seem to get it to work predictably. Does anyone have an example I could check out that demonstrates this?

Hmm this seems to have changed from the the old Max 4.6 SDK:

"Note: You cannot mix regular inlets and Proxies together in the same object." (from the 4.6 SDK)

Clearly the 5 API states this is now possible.

Have you any code or further info? I'd probably just give up on this design approach if it's proving too problematic, as there's not much that can't be done with one approach or the other - obviously proxies don't allow max to figure out invalid patching connections due to typing, but then if you need proxies at all that suggests that at least one of your non left inlets needs variable typing anyway, so I'd probably just use all proxies and expect the user to sort their connections and typing out (plenty of standard max/msp/jitter objects work this way).

I had no real goal in mind for this, and figured it was a road I didn't need to be going down. I'm learning and have been doing some experiments. Just curious if anyone has a working example that does this.

I'm just going to stick to one or the other for now in my own projects.
