mystery object…

mystery object…

I was patching away this evening and went to insert a
“/” object and by accident I typed in “/6″ instead of
“/ 6″… object with 7 inlets and 1 outlet appeared
instead of the usual [/ ] object with 2 inlets and 1
outlet. What is it? What does it do? It has no help
file. It seems to output a signal. The first inlet
doesn’t seem to accept anything. When I mouse over
the other outlets I get “Noise-Tone Channel 1″
“Frequency Channel 1″ “Volume Channel 1″ “Noise-Tone
Channel 2″ “Frequency Channel 2″ “Volume Channel 2″.

“/6″ is not in my distro of max 4.5.6 (i’m a bit jealous)

If you did not make it yourself you must have downloaded something called “/6″ to your max search path – use your computer’s search to find it – try double clicking on the object and see what happens…

best,

john.

I have no idea but wouldn’t it be some sort of object to do analysis of how
your ear detects sounds with a masking
effect ?
It’s just an idea…
There are loads of objects not documented in max especialy when you look at
the inspector windows and also the
“file preferences” patch…
Very interesting things there….

I think I can live without that!

On around Feb 10, 2006, at 9:33, Patrick Delges said something like:

Here in Berlin-Reinickendorf /6 instantiates an object w/one-in
two-outs that posts “Hello from XCode” into the Max window. Assistance
for the inlet says “braindead assistance” and the outlets both give
“more braindead assistance”, an evaluation with which I can
wholeheartedly concur.

A search through the attached hard disks for a filename containing
these two adjacent chars finds nothing other than some LaserWriter
drivers and parts for an arrangement of Mendelssohn’s op.62 Nr. 6 I
wrote several years ago.

What happens when you ctrl-opt-click (right-alt-click)? My popup tells
me that what I have is an instantiation of the round external I built
from Tim Place’s tutorial on XCode (I thought the assistance strings
looked familiar).

Oh, hell, this looks like an obscure bug in Max’s symbol->object lookup
procedure, which means I’m gonna have to fill out yet another bug
report. Real soon…

I get an object with 1 inlet & 8 outlets. I’m too lazy to see if it
works, but the assistance messages match the ones for the object that
receives data from my iGesture pad…..

Here:

http://pinktwins.com/igesture

Although the page says you’ll need NumPad, not the cheaper iGesture
Pad, a few people
have said they both work.

The only way I can get my iGesture pad to work with Max is to include the Pink Twins igesture object and the hi object in the same patch. The igesture won’t output any data, but the hi object will. I am still trying to decipher the data stream; most of it is fairly straight forward.

Hi,

on OS X in Grado between Trieste and Venice facing south, when
instantiated in Max windows I see:

on osX in Amsterdam (Oud West / Baarsjes) it doesn’t exist either,
though.

Here in sunny New Hampshire, /6 gives me a python interpreter object
which I compiled. It works, too! I am also on OS X.

In Cambridge, which is reasonably far east, I get:

“FATAL: can not find FTM class /6″ on OS X and the expected “no such
object” on XP.

If I take FTM out of my max search path on OS X I get nothing at all in
the message window.

Your “East” theory doesn’t hold. I life 4 km from the Dutch-German
border and I get a “No such object” error. Just as I suspected.

I think this all a major setup to introduce some new movie or
something. Just like the giants evereywhere! There everywhere!
