hmm..

jeremy, nothing is wrong with either one of your sugestions.
thanks for suggesting.

i’m just thinking on keeping things coherent.
i like the hyphen separator.
reminds me of unix commands (and how i should pay more attention to you
real programmers)

and since i place them in my standard distro… i have zillion patches
with “a-” objects i shouldnt break..

but if everyone wants it, i’ll change my local naming separator into “as.”

anyone else?

while we are on the subject, i would like to rename the chaos collection
to “chaos-…..”
will it break anyones patches?

thanks for your suggestion matthew, but my money doesnt come from
programming, it comes from projects i am involved in. that’s what i like
about the whole *nix platform. data is available, but very few can
actually implement….

but if it bugs everyones mind, i can make it a symbolic pay.

please, do keep shouting what you think on this.

Seems like most people carve out a namespace designated by:

namespace.jit.whatever
or for max objects
namespace.whatever

While Technically it doesn’t really matter if you do a-jit or as.jit,
it is more consistent with other 3rd part library naming conventions
to do as.jit.

i will rename my entire library to a “.” namespace
thanks for all the input

as for the chaos externals…. can it be like richard’s original namespace?

I don’t know about others, but where I teach an F is an F. +/- is
reserved for the higher letters. Not that this stops students from
trying to qualify in a manner similar to Jeremy here.

Guess that doesn’t sit well for your naming scheme. ;)

There are a lot of different grading conventions around the world. Some
places subdivide F (or the equivalent) into +/-/square-in-the-middle
because it can make a difference when calculating a GPA (or whatever
the local equivalent is). Other places have an E as well as an F
(generally both fails, but with an E you were closer to a D).

In any case, the only truly apt grading scheme is O/E/A/P/D/T.

well the answers 0b-v-us. Just keep using the same convention you have before! I don’t see any reason why there should be a jit.gl in there, for a-obj and a-chaos it was just “a-”…. no need to make it fancy. I mean, jasch has like 100 some odd externals that have no identifier at all, where as taptools would be an example of the other end of the scale. Dunno man, whatever works for you. I spend some time naming my abstractions j.X and then I snapped and realized it didn’t matter and have since stopped being so perfectionistic. Maybe even do something like @- for inconsistencies sake…. Sometimes thats healthier on the brain in the long run, too much consistency be bad, mon. Take mozart, total slob. Oh god I used a Mozart example. Someone, please shoot me.

While we’re on this topic, I would like to address that, albeit it isn’t important, sometimes a name can have a pre or post identifier can have an effect on ones willingness to using a library. Take St.ools for example. For some reason, everytime I see that in my path folder, I think of the fat bastard stool sample in austin powers. Sorry if that ruins St.ools for anyone else, but for me, it makes it very difficult to use them. So, I guess there is some truth to uber leet naming conventions. Weeeeeeeeohhhhhhh.

first, thanks for all the input. really. has been super nice.

here’s what i’m planning to do:

keep my a- namespace in my standard max,msp externals

defer the call to the jitter developers about my jitter externals. if you
want to see jit in the namespace, no problem, if you dont mind, i’ll use a
couple of “gl_”.

you decide amongst you whichever is best….

now it’s time to fly a video of water.. i’ll be networkless, but around….
