need help discovering algorithmic composition

August 19, 2008 | 7:52 pm

I have recently become interested in using algorithmic procedures in my own music. The further I get into music languages like max and chuck, I have become interested in getting the computer to create music beyond the means that I can play any acoustical instrument. I need some suggestions for music to help me along. I come from a techno background and have grown tired with most generic electronic and computer music. I’m just interested in any suggested music that can get me heading in a new musical direction. I have found that some of the more academic side of computer music are often unavailable commercially. Any suggestions would be strongly appreciated. Perhaps some of the members on this forum have music available! Thank you.

you can try searching ‘algorithmic’ here:

http://www.cdemusic.org/

hopefully others will answer with many other sites and references but that’s a good start for finding recordings and also books, etc…

oh sorry, should also give you the other sources linked there:
http://www.emfmedia.org/
and

http://www.emf.org/index.html

(that first one is a good list of …great works, but not all would be consider ‘algorithmic’ i suppose, still worth a listen, though, at least there you cna check out mp3 excerpts, etc.)

Hope it helps.
