Hello to all of you, max/msp users. i discovered recently max and am amazed by the possibilities it offers. i ve been reading, downloading, listening, and watching so many things that i m a little bit confused. i m looking for information to try to do this: say foexemple if i press keys q,w ,e,r,t bangs one note if i press q,e,r,t bangs another note, w,e,t bangs another note etc. my ignorance of the program and the little i know about programming, i wonder if matrix would do that. i did a logical table such as

for example. please, what do you suggest that i read, or use or do? could you guide me a little thru this zillion max objects... is it possible using only objects or some text programming would be necessary? sorry to bother you with my poor knowledge but i tried so many things in max..... i m stucked. thanx in advance..

to determine a list's length look at [zl len], then perhaps something involving [join] and [route] or [match] to differentiate between the ASCII code groups for "qwer" and "wert" etc.

The [zl] group of objects are great for list processing, but as I don't use them that much, hopefully a zl-guru will chime in too.

It's a bit tricky because Max needs to be able to tell which keys are pressed together. Since there are almost always tiny delays between the individual key presses, I used the [thresh] object with a setting of 100ms. Thus, any keys pressed within 100ms of each other are treated as a group and packed into a list. the [zl sum] object outputs the sum of the list. I'm then just using a simple [select] object to trigger MIDI notes based on the various sums of the qwert keys you listed above. Obviously, you need to follow this through for more combinations, but this should get you started.

This approach also has limitations since it's based on the sum of the ASCII codes. Undoubtedly there will be more than one key combination that produces the same sum.
