Netsend problems

I am trying to create a connection over a specific port using the netsend object. this is something i’ve never done before and am not sure i’m doing it right. when i try to connect using the ip address and port number, it says “attempted socket connection actively refused by host.” when it try using the host name, it says “bad host.” what could account for this problem? it’s connected with an ethernet cable over a linksys ethernet network. any help would be appreciated.

Hi Chris,

do you have any firewall software running on the receiving machine? If
it’s a WindowsXP machine it has firewall build in and you have to
manually open the port you want to connect to.

it might have something to do with that. although i’ve tried manually opening the port in every way i can think of, the netsend now just tries to connect and then never does. would that be explained by the port not being open?

Yes or no. Depends on the firewall I think.

If you connect to a port where nothing is listening, netsend tries to
connect for a while and then says “bad host” (if the IP was not
reachable) or something like “failed to connect” if nothing is listening
on that port number.

Maybe you can tell me a secret: which OS are you on? Both for the
sending and the receiving part. That would really help to narrow things
down. Are you using the help patches or is it just going crazy if you
put the stuff into your own patches? Which Max version if you are on
Mac? Which netsend version?

Hello,

Using the netsend-1.1test5-intel.sit version with the help file and
Max 4.6 on a PPC mac, I have the following messages:

UDP
“connect 192.168.0.20 3001″
netsend : connecting to port 3001
“send foo 1″
netsend : Connection refused(61)

UDP
“connect 255.255.255.255 3001″
netsend : connecting to port 3001
“send foo 1″
netsend : Permission denied (13)

It was working fine with previous versions of max and netsend and I
didn”t change anything to my network, exept the new version of Max and
netsend.
