I’m going through the Max for Live max basic tutorials and have reached 18: Data Collections. It is the first one featuring sound (‘makenote’ and ‘noteout’) but no sound appears. I have sound in Live itself and Audio is ‘on’ in the ‘Audio Status’ (with driver listed as ‘Live’). When I click ‘Audio driver setup’ in the same window nothing happens.
Going to help sections and elsewhere it says that if I double-click ‘noteout’ I should be able to choose between MIDI ports, but nothing happens when I do this. Microsoft GS wavetable synth is NOT activated in Live’s Preferences.
I’m using a Dell laptop with Windows 7; Live and Max for Live are updated. The issue presists whether I use asio4all, MME/DirectX or an external soundcard.
noteout don’t make sound, not sure how midi behaves on windows… but, in m4l, noteout is dedicated to send notes out of your current device, so it goes back into live. should be used in a midi instrument or effect device. Then, from the Live MIDI track output control, you can send your midi information where you want/ where Live can.
no knowledge of M4L here, but under Win7 with asio4all I have no access to the built-in GM synth (ie noteout will not send MIDI to the MS synthesizer chip), it will only work via the MME driver-type
