hi
I’m planning to buy Max/msp so to create my own work environment for music. I downloaded manuals and I saw in new release some notation display-editing features. I’m very interested if I could edit in notation. Can you tell me something about this?
thanks in advance

what your referring to is a UI object called nslider. this isn’t
quite what your looking for. its simply displays a chord at a time.
FTM, a 3rd party object set, lets you do some of this. I’m not
exactly an expert on FTM. I’ll leave the rest to a more senior poster.

check it out here

There’s not a lot of built-in notation capability in max in terms of
traditional western notation for rhythm and things like that, but there
are add-ons from IRCAM as well as others that can be downloaded (or
purchased in the IRCAM case). Also, there is JMSL, which is not part
of Max, but has a lot of cool notation capabilities, and, since it’s
Java, plays with Max. Nevertheless, Max also can output midi files,
which you can always import into your favorite music notation program.

There’s a single object for displaying note pitches on a musical
stave. It can show chords, but there’s no time sense – it’s
essentially a notation variant of the keyboard object. It also
doesn’t believe in key signatures.

Just to clarify, you don’t have to purchase anything at Ircam to use
FTM. It’s LGPL or what ever…
