Note Quantizer (to scale or collection of notes)

April 30, 2008 | 8:45 am

Hi Guys,

Is there a Note Quantizer in Max as I cannot find it.

So quantize input to a particular scale (say Am) or a collection of notes (say A C E).

There are many ways to do this in Max, depending upon exactly what you’re trying to accomplish. One method is shown in the "Scaler" example installed with Max.

Pitch quantize could utilize a select, which then only bangs certain notes. For tempo quantize, you can use a set $1 message to the anticipated note (instead of sending it right away), then use a global metro to bang the note out…in whatever subdivision you want. That way the notes always sound (or go into a seq or whatever) in a quantized manner.

Also, Vince Manzo has a nice set of tools for working with modes.
