Incase no one wants to examine the patch because it's so long my main problem is that I'm using a step sequencer which is a simple toggle gate on/off sequencer. When you hit the keyboard buttons it sets up a certain pattern on the gate then as it cycles through a coll. it plays notes in a pattern specified by the open and closed gates. Sometimes though notes will still play even after the toggles are shut off and the gate is closed I don't understand it all please someone shed some light I'm sort of a newb to Max.

Your patch, long as it was, was not complete. The thread Christopher links to talks about "Copy Compressed" which is how max patches are intended to be posted.
