Opening and playing a Midi File with Graphical linkup

October 28, 2007 | 5:05 pm

Hi there!
I’m trying to get started on a major project and i’ve fallen at the first hurdle.
I’m trying to develope a max patch which can open read and play any MIDI file at different speeds, with the MIDI information being displayed graphically in a scrolling score/piano roll.
Can any one help me out?
I want to know how to:
Open and play pre recorded MIDI files within MAXMSP
and
link MIDI data to a graphical system (fretboard on guitar)
Please get back to me if you can!

Look at Detonate. It’s graphical and can import Type 1 MIDI files that seq
still can’t handle. After you look at the examples you’s see how to vary
speed.

I coded a fretboard [jsui] last summer. As it was for a precise
project, it’s not very abstracted but if you know JavaScript and are
interested, I can give you the code.
