Hi Oscar,

Yes, I communicated successfully with Isadora:

I simply sent messages “/isadora/1 $1″ or “/isadora/2 $1″… directly to
udpsend.
Though, as I was not programming the Isadora side, I don’t remember if there
was a dialog box in Isadora to define the syntax of the message…

The only problem we encountered in a mixed sound and video interactive
interaction was that sometimes, after a few days running, Isadora stopped
receiving OSC messages and needed to be restarted.
We never had that problem with the same setup for interactive dance
performances where computers would be restarted every day.

Best,
Todor

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but what sorts of things in Isadora
can be controlled via OSC? I’ve only used MIDI messages from Max to
control stuff in Isadora

Pretty much anything: Isadora has an OSC Listener object whose output
can be connected to whatever you want.

im not an expert in this topic, but in general osc seems more flexible and faster..

for me theres some advantages in use OSC instead of midi, depending of the system configuration and the kind of data you are sending… p.e isnt limited to 0-127 and integers…
with OSC you can send also non numerical data, but in the case of isadora you can get only integers or floats..

another advantage for me is that the windows version of Isadora dont have virtual midi ports as the mac version, so is necesary use p.e midiyoke or a midi interface..

also between diferent computers i think network comunication is faster.. also you can comunicate with Flash via OSC, or you can send jitter matrices between diferent computers…

but if you are sending midi data maybe the best is keep it in the midi world..

maybe theres some document in the net about this topic or somebody else can give you more information..

regards,

You could control everything you can control with MIDI, but with the added
advantage of floating point values… And without MIDI interfaces on both
sides… And wirelessly via Airport if you wished.
One or several of those 3 advantages are generally useful.
