When in Nagoya, there is a 40 min or so shinkansen train to Kyoto. Dont hesitate since it is definitely my favorite place in Japan, and the night scene is vivid. Could not help you for clubs though since i spend most of the time working at Expo in Nagoya :(
BTW take as much money as you can, youll need it….

Perhaps you could try to find out where Zbigniew Karkowski performs. I
think he’s mostly in Japan, but have no idea how to find where he
performs…

If you don’t mind some travel, it also looks like some very good music
is gonna be played here:

Karkowski is definitely someone you want to experience. Go to the record store "Los Apson" you will not be let down! Shinjuku Nest occasionally has good stuff going on. Otomo Yoshihide plays pretty often and any Boredoms off shoots. If you have time, you should travel to Osaka, the musical mecca of Japan. A club called Bears in Osaka usually has good stuff booked. Too bad Noise Bar shut down.

In Kyoto check out Cafe Independants gigs put on by these folks:

In Tokyo Superdeluxe:http://www.super-deluxe.com/

and Loop Line: http://www.loop-line.jp/

For transport the night buses are much cheaper than the train. Here’s one company:

Instantplaces projects in Japan are here: http://www.instantplaces.ca/japan/01.html
