[OT] New Software + Asking a favour

July 5, 2006 | 10:18 pm

Hello,

If you have access to a Mac OSX machine (non Core Duo) you might be interested in a new Audio Application i have just made with Max/MSP.

It’s called Forester and with it you can create compositions and re-mixes by threading your way through a dense forest. Sound weird? Yep it does, but it’s fun and sounds nice too. You can use audio from a CD or files from your hard-drive.

You can download it for free from: http://www.leafcutterjohn.com & follow the link from the news page.

I’m hoping some kind soul will help me compile a PC version of this – any takers?

Have fun! And if you enjoy it please spread the word.

John x.

He he, it /is/ fun, I had a little play on it last night :)

I’ll happily have a bash, not that I’m oozing with either C or windows-compilation wisdom, but I do have a windows box, a compiler and a brain ;-)

This doesn’t work on my dual-core G5 (2.0 MHz) – In the Console log I
see:

Jul 6 13:17:51 GhostPlanet /Users/evan/incoming/Forester/forester
v1.2.app/Contents/MacOS/forester v1.2: launch failed with error code
-2857 (cfragCFragRsrcErr) for application /Users/evan/incoming/
Forester/forester v1.2.app/Contents/MacOS/forester v1.2n

Looking at the package contents, I don’t see jitlib or any javascript
stuff – are you using jsui? Maybe it’s just LCD that I see in the
previews? I think that something may be missing in your app package.

I have Max 4.5.7, Jitter 1.5.2, OS X 10.4.6

Best,
Evan

It’s not a core-duo, that’s the Intel version (of where there is no G5).

some people have been getting corrupted downloads when using firefox or similar to DL. I’d recommend trying again with Safari.

Look in the Forester folder, there should only be 2 files in there (the app and the readme) The corrupted DL’s have extra folders and all sorts.

I hope this helps

best,

john.

no extra folders, just the two files.
FWIW, I like using dmg’s these days.
If you’re on 10.4, there’s an automator script that automagically
creates them. i could dig it up if there was interest.

best,
evan

ah.. sorry

I’m on 10.3.9 The problem i have with DI is that the disc Image of my App ends up around 17MB when the App itself is 8.7MB and the .Zip is 5.7MB

I’ve had about 450 downloads since i put up the software last night so i need the files to be as small as possible…

Maybe try DLing the latest v.1.2 if you have not tried that

I’ve done a little Getting Started tutorial here:

I tried it again – the problem is Stuffit. I used the built-in os x
unarchiving tool, and that worked properly. Unzipping the same file in
Stuffit gave me the same, original result – an instant crash of the app
and that odd error.

Anyway, it looks great!

cheers,
Evan

Oh yes I enjoyd this a lot, finally found time to listen. Beautiful work!

The only drawback, I got after a while a stack overflow. And now I get
the stackoverflow almost immediately :-(. But restarting Max does help
(for a while).

When loading it as a collective into a 4.6 beta on a PPC powerbook, it
would crash. It seems at least the altiverb~ needs to be exchanged with
another reverb to make it run on a PC and/or Macintel. Don’t know about
other 3rd party externals you are using… Elsewise it shouldn’t be too
hard to make a PC version…
