particle clouds

sorry for spaming the forum but i try to finsh my project. a short question. is it possible to give an particle system a special form / plane. all examples i have found the particle emitter is just a point. i want to fill a plane (a cloud with fixed borders – the outlines of people) with particles. than the particles should fall out of the cloud. is the realisation possible with max/jitter? how?

thanx

afaik there is no option to do this via the built in particle system.
other options is to apply some forces to a custom made matrix cloud, the
prime example of this is the latest recipe by andrew b. , “shatter”
i think hacking its particle to go down (now the spreading is on the x/y
planes) shouldn’t be that hard.
dealing with the particle life/death, variations ect. will be a different
matter.
for this i could recommend the xray.jit.cellcoords and cellvleue object. i
don’t know of a way to preform their function using native objects.
