Perhaps a little offtopic, but ...
Just taking a moment out of a heavy patch-building session to reflect on just how freaking cool Max/MSP is. We all use it, we get used to it, some things bug us, some things delight us, but I think everyone would agree that it's a phenomenal piece of software.
Using it, I'm able to visualize, design and create packages that I simply wouldn't have the time or skill to do using other languages. It's a joy to use, when there is an issue it's usually because I haven't yet figured out the Max way of doing it, and with the new colour/alpha options (especially in Presentation mode) in 5.1 it enables us to do some extremely amazing things.
I'm very very happy with how my project is preogressing, although it's been a combination of a learning curve with Max as well as the myriad of things I have to figure out about the hardware I'm controlling with it, but really, when it comes down to it we are very lucky to have such an amazing environment to work in.
There. It needed saying. Was just taking a moment to do so.

Agreed :)
Yep, agreeing here too ;D
Cos i think it'd be cool to share, out of interest, what kind of projects are everyone working on? Im currently working on a granular patch that reads files (mainly orchestral or non percussion) and runs through parts of it real slow to get some nice evolving pad soundscapes.. Im aiming to incorporate some video control of the patch for more intuitive tweaking, but its making nice noises so far!
I'm working on a full SysEx editing suite for the Yamaha Motif XS workstation, with Touchscreen support via the JazzMutant Lemur and iPhone devices. Have future plans to extend this suite to encompass user-defined parameters so that it can be made to work with any MIDI device you have the manual for ...
i am working on a patch that scrubs backwards and forwards in time on a video of fruit rotting, you use a touch screen to interact with it. made a nice slider for it in opengl.
i have finished a program built in max 5, for audio hardware, such as synths. originally it was built for just the machine drum sps-1uw. but then i liked the idea of giving it away as freeware to any willing hardware addict.
it is project 7 in the projects page. called [hantera], swedish name for 'to handle'.
people seem to be digging it. even the guys who made the machine drum, elektron...
This looks very cool Lewis ... but I can't get any sound into it! I selected my Apogee Duet as the audio input and enabled channel 1, but none of the inputs 1-8 in the dropdown menu give any audio (though I definitely have audio going into the Duet as it's meters are bouncing and I can use it in Logic.)
Am I missing something obvious? :-P
Eddy
yo eddy,
cheers man for the comment. it took ages to think of something like that and more importantly, keep the blasted cpu down. but won in the end :)
sometimes, which i have no idea why and i am trying to sort. you sometimes might need to press the on/off button again. i dont know why it does this. plus as well, try clicking on the input/output again as well, just to be sure and it should work.
to be honest, i have not tried using it in any daw program, although, now i am working on the next [hantera] program which will be released as shareware instead. it will take some time to be perfect.
but i will try and do something which can incorporate it in with daws. although the reason for [hantera] in the first place was so you would just use that and not with any daw. just pick up and play. if you get me.
if you have any other problems, give me an email at lewis@smokingbunny.co.uk

thats funny - i just downloaded hantera today before i read your post :P
Great thread!
I've been working on some freelance projects that I found through this forum as well as through guru.com and freelancer.com. There's no Max category on their sites (yet!) but occasionally some of the Flash or similar projects are interesting, so it's been worth keeping an eye out and bidding on those that just might work...
cool cheers 'the_man361'.
any problems with it, email me with any problems.
so far had none from anyone, except that minor one from eddy and someone asking about hooking up a bluetooth headset.
work has now started on the shareware version of [hantera], which will most likely be called something else. will take some time to make it worthy of people paying for it...
