Picking Objects in a 3D scene

Hi List,

Could someone give me some pointers as to the best way to go about detecting if an object in a 3D scene has been clicked on – ie: the sort of thing one would do using the selection buffer and depth testing in C.

Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated,
