The help file for Max says “If you are using Max on Windows, we recommend that you install QuickTime and choose a complete install of all optional components to work with images other than PNG or PICT files.”

As I read that statement, I interpret it to mean that patchers on Windows computers can use PNG and PICT files without installing QuickTime. Is that correct? I can’t get my patcher to read any of my PICT files after transferring it to a Windows machine. It will read PNG, but no luck with the PICT. Do I need to convert all the PICT files to PNG? This is for a standalone that I want to be dual platform, and I’m trying to avoid requiring people to install Quicktime.

Thanks.

It could also mean that with installing quicktime max can deal with pict files and withe the complete installe with types other then png or pict. Anyhow, there is no future for pict. It seems that all pict files that are installed with max5 are a bunch of very old (and ugly) images that might be referred to in some help files. PNG appears the way to go.

The doc has been updated for the next incremental. Since Max 5, using PNG works on windows without QuickTime, and you get the transparency for free.
